Off shore sailing

Off Shore Sailing

Knysna Yacht Club is home to a considerable fleet of off-shore yachts and catamarans ranging from under 20 ft in length to ocean cruisers exceeding 50 ft.

As in most clubs many of the crafts are for leisure, pleasure and socialising. We also have a very active and enthusiastic group of active sailors “The Keeler group” who sail regularly and organise cruises and racing along our coastline.
See the KYC sailing calendar for events like Buffalo Bay challenge where we race from Buffalo Bay back to Knysna Yacht Club a few times a year when conditions allow.
Annual events also include the Royal Cape Yacht Club Knysna Rally where a fleet of off-shore yachts sail from Cape Town to Knysna and are hosted by KYC for a weekend before returning home.

The Keeler group meet in the restaurant for breakfast every Saturday at 9am for social-informative repartee. After breakfast there will be sailing either, offshore or within the charted area of the Knysna Estuary.
We are always on the lookout for more active members to share our passion so always welcome would-be sailors to join in and experience the thrill of ocean sailing, all depending on the condition of bar in the Knysna Heads.
Experience can be gained for alignment with South African Sailing (SAS) Training & Certification (www.sailing.org.za)
