The Inshore Sailing Team handle all the recreational and competitive sailing for Dinghy’s and Beach Catamarans at Knysna Yacht Club and our past and present membership alike boasts some very accomplished competitive sailors.
The Knysna Estuary offers an ideal, safe and beautiful setting for small boat cruising. Whether it’s up to the Heads and back, stopping at the beach bar, or under the bridge and up the Knysna river with lots of stop off points.
The Estuary with it’s dynamic tidal flow and sand banks makes both fun sailing and racing here all the more interesting.
KYC hosts organised racing with Bridge and Rescue crew.
Dingy Dash: On Wednesday afternoons at 17h15 comprising of short round the bouy courses based on personal handicap. Its great fun for sailors and a beautiful and entertaining spectacle for members relaxing at the club. Club racing: Saturday afternoons from 2.30pm is reserved for club racing with various courses set around the estuary and competing for Trophys that are over 100 years old. There is a Prize giving function held at the end of the season.
KYC hosts an Interclub regatta once a season where sailors from Clubs between Mossel Bay and Gqeberha come to compete. KYC also arranges and assists sailing teams to travel to and compete at the other interclub regattas namely George Lakes and Mossel Bay.
In-shore sailing is an ideal way to get into sailing for the whole family. We periodically offer an introduction to sailing and the club can be contacted for lessons for beginners. KYC owns a number of Club boats that can be used by members by arrangement. Boat parking is available by application.
