The Knysna Yacht Club is internationally renowned for its hospitality and facilities and visiting yachts are always welcome.

Established In 1910, the Knysna Yacht club has steadily grown over the years and now boasts one of that larger Yacht Club memberships in South Africa. The club’s sailing and canoeing activities as well as other water sports, coupled with it’s association to Sanparks, the Sea Cadets and NSRI are testament to its importance in the community as an essential link between the town of Knysna and the waters of the lagoon.

The clubhouse and other facilities of the club boast arguably one of the most beautiful locations in the Knysna area, surrounded by, and floating above the waters of the Knysna lagoon and overlooking it’s Yacht basin.
Offering a restaurant, two bars, a function venue, play area and ablution facilities make the club a sought-after venue for social gatherings and sporting events alike. . The club provides haul-out facilities for vessels of up to 12 tonnes with skilled servicing by SAS/SAMSA qualified personnel.

Most Saturdays are abuzz with sailboat rigging and racing from the club. On a Tuesday afternoon the impressive paddling time trialists hit the water and on Wednesdays the weekly Dingy Dash sees a bit of course racing take place before sunset. Any of these provide an entertaining spectacle from the shore for those popping for a drink at Asche’s bar or Dinner at the main restaurant.
Larger vessels from cruising craft to amazing leisure and racing catamarans built in Knysna and various charter boats can be seen coming and going from the deck at KYC. Local and visiting yachts periodically come alongside the club jetty.

Other watersports like canoe polo can also be found at the club and adjacent marina and the local open water swimming group, the Seahorses are also proudly affiliated and depart from the KYC slipway three mornings a week .

Steeped in history, the club is valued by it’s members young and old. The trophy cabinet tells a story of more than a century of yacht racing. Many families have been members and helped build and improve the club for generations. New members are welcomed and building a new generation of younger members and families is a key priority for the club.
